Photoshop provides us a great platform to create animation files. Go to Windows and select Timeline. A timeline panel will appear at the bottom of the workspace as shown below.
Select Frame Animation option from the dropdown in the middle of the panel if the default is not set.
To create a slider, click the menu icon from the upper right corner of the Timeline panel and select Make Frames From Layers. This will convert all the layers in the Layers panel into individual frames in your animation.
Click the repeat menu from the bottom of the frames in Timeline panel and select Forever. This will create a looping animation.
Click the Play button from the bottom of the Timeline panel (or press the Spacebar on your keyboard) to preview the animation.
Group a set of layers you want to see in each frame and make changes in each group as you require.
Create new frame from the timeline new frame option and make the needed part only visible in each frame.
Create tween animation frames between the frames to give a feeling of movement to your frames if you want. Adjust the number of frames between each frame and other parameters as required from the dialog box that appears as below.
Click the play button to check if it'''s what you wanted or not. If not then make necessary ammendments.
Working with video animations is a bit different to frames. You need to go to Files » Import » Video Frames to Layers to import a video as layers in photoshop. For multiple videos and frames, you need to go to Scripts » Load Files into Stack.
A dialog box will appear where you need to define the range of video input wither fro beginning to end or make selection of the segment you want to load from the preview section. Loading a huge file might take infinity to complete. So, it's better to import only a fraction of the video. Click OK to continue.
The video frames will appear as layers on the layers panel as well as frames in the timeline. Remove the frames that you don't want in your GIF and keep the frame count to lower values. Define the delay speed you want in your GIF and you are done.
Select the save for web option from the file menu and change the preset to GIF on the dialog box that appears and click on save option.
Define the destination and filename for your GIF file on the dialog box that appears and click on save.
